West Jordan High FCCLA, Utah, prepared pamphlets that taught the importance of breakfast. To encourage students to eat breakfast, members made pamphlets that stated many important facts about breakfast. The chapter made a difference in their school by helping students to eat breakfast, which will help them do better in school. The pamphlets were printed for the entire student body, around 1,500 students! Sharyland High FCCLA, Tex., partnered with the school’s LEO club to present the Jump Rope for Heart as part of a Student Body project. At the event, local cardiologist Dr. Leonardo Salcedo spoke to students about heart disease and a healthy diet. Members donated water and nutritious snacks for participants during the event. Students from Treutlen High FCCLA, Ga., helped their local humane society by collecting animal care items for their annual community service project. Members named the project PAWS (Precious Animals Wanting to Survive). Students at Lake Park Audubon Public High FCCLA, Minn., challenged one another to a war, a penny war that is. Calling their event “Coins for Children,” two ninth grade members organized a weeklong fund raiser for the Merit Care Children’s Hospital in Fargo, N.Dak. Students raised more than $500 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Karns High FCCLA, Tenn., recently participated in Hoops for Preemies, a weekend fundraising event that raised $1,500 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Twenty-five FCCLA members volunteered in a variety of areas including concession stand sales, t-shirt sales, and donation tables. Chambers High FCCLA, Nebr., focused on children in kindergarten through second grade to address their concern about the lack of emphasis on recycling in their area. . During the local Holt County Fair, 17 children in the “Clover Kids” group participated in a “Go Green Quest.” This “Quest,” written by member Andrea Lemmer, featured a puppet show using donkeys and other animals as characters to teach children how to recycle and save our natural resources. The children also participated in a craft project and shared what they learned in an interactive carnival environment.
