Although she didn’t know it at the time, this would soon turn out to be her main focus throughout high school. This fall, Kelsey will be entering her senior year at Parkston High School in South Dakota. Kelsey was recently elected to serve on the 2007-2008 National Executive Council as the National Vice President of STAR Events. This was her first choice of office because she truly believes the best way to become involved in FCCLA is to complete a STAR Event. She has done two illustrated talks and a focus on children project. For her focus on children project, she taught fire safety lessons to the first, second, and third graders in the elementary school. While participating in the project Kelsey had the opportunity to work with a younger generation, make a difference in the community, and strengthen her public speaking skills. On the local level Kelsey has participated in numerous community service activities and assisted others with their STAR Events and projects. She has been a member of the local executive council for five years, served as local Junior High President, and been a Family Peer Educator. Kelsey was the District Junior High Representative and Chairperson. She has completed 16 Power of Ones and received the local FCCLA Top Ten and Member of the Year awards. Last year she served as the South Dakota State President and had the opportunity to attend all four phases of Leadership USA: the Ultimate State Officer Academy. Kelsey has participated in two National Cluster Meetings and National Leadership Meetings. Outside of FCCLA, Kelsey is involved in marching, pep, and concert band, the Stick Shot Drumline, National Honor Society, school play, and volunteers at the local hospital and All About U Adoptions Agency, Inc. She is avidly involved in Farmers Union and will receive the highest youth honor within the organization. At church Kelsey is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization or CYO and is a server and lector. Kelsey lives with her three brothers and parents on a dairy farm north of Parkston, South Dakota. She enjoys traveling, being with family and friends, and cooking. After high school, Kelsey plans to attend a four-year college and major in public relations. Kelsey Kummer: necvpstar@gmail.com
